Dont be an idiot.

This is why I charge by the hour and not salary. Not to mention nannies aren't salary employees, but charging by the hour ensures I hey paid for all time worked.

Yes, maybe just say "I know how difficult the commute can be, but sometimes I have plans after work so if you could let me know you're going to be late that would be great." Do you have an agreement on overtime? You should, but if not and you feel comfortable introducing the topic, you should mention that you think it would be fair for them to pay for extra time in 15 minute increments.
