Perhaps a "Temp Nanny's Assistant" would be ideal.

I would find either a part time nanny or a mother's helper. Since the person won't be home alone with your children at any time you could even consider a babysitter who is looking to gain more experience and references. If you have mostly flexible hours that you are looking you could consider a college student (if there's a school nearby). College students usually will work for a lower salary just to earn some extra money, and they could come when they aren't in classes and on the weekends.

I would hire a part-time temporary nanny to cover the hours from the time the nanny leaves until the kids are in bed. If you need morning coverage before the nanny comes, you might want to ask your nanny if she could come earlier and leave earlier for a few months. That would be easier than trying to find someone who will do a split shift. Having gone through two months of bedrest, I recommend you to err on the aide of having more help for a longer period of time that you think you need. You will be quite exhausted due to the lengthy span of inactivity and, as you know, newborns are exhausting plus you have two other little ones.

How temporary?

I might consider a babysitting service like Seeking Sitters, or a nanny service like MetroParentRelief. They will send temps, but if you set it up far enough in advance there's a good chance you'll see the same people. Way less hassle for you in terms of screening and hiring. Probably pricier than hiring yourself, but if it's for a very limited time, the additional cost would be worth it to me.

Should I look for someone wanting babysitting work or for someone in between full time nanny positions? Would I advertise for mother's helpers?
hire somebody to help you.

?? what does this mean? She said she wanted to hire someone.

Are you looking for childcare only or help with dinner prep, lite housekeeping, etc? Your nanny should be ok during the day if she is only doing childcare. If she is also doing household management or having to work evenings and weekends to relieve you then yes, you are right to hire a second nanny to avoid burnout. Expect to pay a little more for someone to work just a couple hours and weekends.

Have you thought about hiring a night nurse for the new baby? Where are you located?

Have you asked your Nanny if she wants help?
If this person will be taking over when your Nanny gets off in the evening and helping you on the weekends then you want a temp babysitter.
