It is nice for many nannies that they are financially sound enough to be able to turn down jobs that do not offer to pay legally. Unfortunately (and we should all know this by now), this is not the case for many of the individuals in this field. If an employer says they pay cash, and you insist on being paid on the books, it's highly likely that you aren't getting the job. That is just too much of a risk for many people to take.

Compassion and empathy are morals as well, try to remember that up on your high horse.

I am a very jealous a*****e!

Those who pay in cash and get paid in cash are breaking the law, thus are criminals.

I am super jealous that those nannies get to keep all their money, and I HAVE to give 35% of mine to the government. But I am a productive, moral, law abiding citizen. I am proud of that. I do the right thing, and I would like to help raise kids by teaching them how to do the right thing.

And those nannies that are getting paid in cash, you are ruining it for us that are law abiding citizens. You are driving our legal wages down.

She didn't get as many responses as she wanted with her "wake up an smell the coffee" overtime rant. I suppose she thinks this topic will garner her more attention.

I would love to be paid legally, but I'm currently job searching and in my area it is really hard to find a nanny who will do so. The ones who even consider it usually think they can just 1099 me, when I explain to them that I would be their employer not contractor many look at me like I'm crazy. Also, changing career fields is easier said than done.

Mind your own business. When minimum wage goes to $15 you'll be whining because you only make minimum wage and can't live on that. Many people will no longer be able to afford a nanny unless they pay illegally and many nannies will be out of a job. Live and let live. This doesn't affect you in the least.

If you don't like the employers or jobs available to you as a nanny, then simple - find a new job or career path more suitable to your needs.

& their law breaking employers...

It is so unbelievable that parents can be so cheap and selfish that they are willing to break the law and hire and pay their nanny in cash. I can't understand that they are okay to hire a nanny that is breaking the the law and accepting an "off the books/under the table" job, and help raise their children. Why would they think hiring a criminal for their childcare is okay behavior? Excepting payment in cash is illegal, and it shows that this immoral person is okay with stealing and lying.

And nannies, why would you work for employers who do the same? I'm sure many of you are the ones who come on here and whine that your employers don't pay you for overtime, overnights, and make you wipe their bums!

They have no respect for you!

Taxes suck people!!! But this is the law of the land!
