Op here, I got my situation handled found a plunger and used a bucket of water... But oh my gosh was I terrified I was going to have to call MB!

Eek! Thank God this hasn't happened to me (yet!!), but if it did, I would be mortified as well.

Can you get to the store and purchase a plunger if they don't own one? (If they own one, it should be right next to the toilet or one of the house's toilets.) Plunge very very hard and remember that the water you are plunging down is supposed to be what is going to PUSH to object farther down into the pipe which is the end effect you want.

*WARNING: If the family has a house cat, you will be watched in a curious manner as you perform this act. For some unresearched reason, felines find it absolutely fascinating to watch a human plunge a toilet. It's either the repetitive up + down motion or the sound of the bubbling water or all of the above that they find entertaining.

If that doesn't work, try flushing the toilet and then pouring a bucket of warm water into the toilet as you flush.

If that fails and you can make it to Target or Home Depot, try to purchase one of those plungers that are not the typical standard ones...Get the ones that has the pleated/accordian-type neck and see how that fares out.

If none of that works, you can always do what I probably would do....Call in a plumber and BEG him to come over and fix the issue before my bosses come home and just hope the neighbors don't have big mouths!!!!!!!

Sometimes if you wait a bit things will separate, and it will flush down if you try again.

MB here - our nanny clogged our toilet a few times and never told me. I just discovered when I went in there! Honestly it wasn't that big of a deal. I just plunged it and didn't mention it. Not sure anyway if it was her or our toddler. I did at some point just casually ask her to make sure DS wasn't flushing too much TP or wipes or anything, but otherwise we never discussed the true source of the clogs I don't know about other people, but I would much rather someone leave the clogged toilet than try some hangers/soap/etc. I think it's fine to try that stuff on your own toilets but I've known people who did more damage with home fixes and I would be more upset if something happened that required a more extensive repair. Plus if you're elbow deep in the potty, you're not watching the kids. Seriously, any mom has probably seen and cleaned up a whole lot worse than a clogged toilet so I'm sure it's a bigger deal for you than for the family. I totally get being embarrassed though. I'm sure anyone would feel the same way!

Most useful thread on this site! Thanks for all the tips - this happened once to me and I was awkwardly, unfortunately, unsuccessful in dealing with it and had to tell MB. Terrible.

Put half a bottle of dish soap, and then a few cups of boiling water in the toilet. Let it sit and then try flushing. Google it. It works.

Happened to me a couple months ago but it wasn't me that clogged it, it says neighbors ten year old girl who was with us for the day. I started to panic when the plunger wasn't working and flushing was making it worse. I stuck a bottle brush in there and that didn't work either. Ended up sticking my arm in there as far as I could... Not my finest moment as a nanny and it was really last resort. I pulled the wads and wads of tp out which helped a little, and plunged some more, and after about 15-20 minutes(or more, iu wasn't counting) it FINALLY unclogged. I think sometimes you have to leave it alone them go back later. I told the mom what happened and she said her older kids clogged it the night before. I told her in case there was a toy or something in the pipe. Turns out the newer toilets have smaller pipes that are more finicky. Also, avoid flushing tampons is you know this is a problem. Last thing you want us for db to snake the toilet and pull your tampon out. Happened to my sister, only it was my brother who did the snaking and pulled a big wad of tampons out. Good luck.

Get a wire hanger, unravel it into a long wire and use it to unclog the toilet. We've all been there.

95% sure you can get it with a plunger. look for one or go buy one for $5. otherwise get a bucket standing by and just try to flush it 4-5 times. each time it will get better.

Try the plunger and if that doesn't work, dig it out. Yes, it is gross, but it works. You can use a stick or something to get it out.

Yes it has happened to me too unfortunately! I found a plunger and tried to unclog it myself with no luck. When MB got home I told her I was so sorry but I clogged the toilet and couldn't get it unclogged. Good luck OP!

I clogged my employers toilet this morning and I have no idea what to do...

Obviously I need to tell them so something can be done but I'm absolutely mortified.
