How rude of her...Even if she felt short-changed, for her to verbally tell you is just horrible of her. I would never come out and tell anyone that.

I am sorry for what she did to you, your family did not deserve it at all and know in your heart that you did the right thing, since she left you...You owed her zilch. Nada. Not a dime.

People like her, so ungrateful will get theirs someday. Trust me. Karma.

Wow, that really sucks OP! If you quit you aren't owed any severance. You were more than fair with her by offering to up her pay and then giving her a weeks severance. Hopefully you will find an even better nanny with more real expectations. In my 13 years as a nanny I've never received severance after quitting.

The nanny left us, but the job did change. Because my kids are in school now, we have 10 less hours a week for a nanny...but I was willing to increase her pay by $5 an hour to help cover that (and she was well paid to start with, by DCUM standards). But she did decide to leave anyway, and we understood.

I don't think this changes anything....but it is why we were trying to help her out with a nice monetary gift...

I recently had a nanny job for 2 years. The job ended when the family moved. I got no severance but that is okay because I didn't expect it as it wasn't in the contract. I was given a $20 gift card. I was very happy, we left on excellent terms. I was able to get unemployment so that helped.

We had our last day with our Nanny this week. No contract. Legally paid. She left us.

We decided to give her an extra week's pay as a parting gift.

Her response....she was expecting 2 weeks pay! Thought we were legally obligated to pay her that. I explained that this is not a legal requirement, but she brought it up another 2 times.

Here we were, trying to do something nice...and now I am just pissed.
