You might have to pay a fee, but there should be some type of babysitter service in your town.

Where are you located? There are tons of families looking for nanny shares, trying to place their outgoing nannies, etc. right now in Chevy Chase - there are multiple messages every day on the list serv.

Post on care.com and sittercity.com. You can also check/post in the childcare section of Craigslist but you will need to pay for a background check. The first two websites I recommended will run them for free with your membership. I prefer Care.com over the other though. Whenever I post a job I seem to get more and better applicants.
Another idea is post on your local facebook groups even yardsale sites. I've seen request of nannies and/or nannies looking for work. The good thing is you are also able to see their social networking page which will tell you alot about the individual. Hope this helps!

The temporary nanny share is a good idea. You could also ask on your neighborhood listserv to see if there are families whose kids are aging out of a nanny, or who will be on vacation at the end of the month and might be able to have their nanny help you out for a couple of weeks.
Also, an agency can help with short term support until you've figured out a plan. I use MetroParentRelief when I need temporary backup care and it's been a lifesaver.

+1 I've done that before.

Our current daycare is restructuring becuase of funding (a non-profit) and has closed my child's pre-k classroom. Unfortunately, it is the end of the summer and we have only 1 week to get things sorted (I know, bad management). Anyway, onward and upward. We are considering hiring a nanny for a couple of weeks until we can find another suitable pre-k. We only have one child, he is 3 1/2, and is well socialized as he has been in daycare since he was 3 months.
I need some direction. Like, where do I post jobs? (I know, I'm clueless)
I am considering putting him in pre-k in the local elementary for AM and having nanny in afternoon as a long term solution.
I could probably search this, but does anyone have any advice? I have searched some of the recent posts and things seem complicated with nannies. I just want someone that will engage my child.
