My basic compensation package is a little different because I work for a family where MB is a teacher:

$15 per hour
$22.50 per hour overtime (any hours over 40 per week)
IRS mileage reimbursement
5 days PTO (no separate vacation time)
Paid snow days (if our school system is closed)
Paid school holidays (any day MB doesn't work including winter & spring breaks - I have over 20 paid holidays off per school year)

I do not work for this family over the summer so I usually pick up temp jobs for the summer.

OP, your contract is pretty typical. Besides reclassifying your sick days into PTO, giving you more flexibility in how you use them, I can't think of anything to add.

I'm assuming guaranteed hours. You have that in there, right?

Wait, if you use your car, make sure you are reimbursed at the IRS rate.

As for health insurance reimbursement, some families offer this a perk in the second or third year, but it isn't standard. That said, it is a good perk and there is nothing wrong in asking.

Occasional extra days/weeks off
I am in the process of discussing two car details a year since I use my car.

My next position I hope to receive the same benefits plus health insurance.

2 weeks vacation (one of his choice, one of ours)
3 floating days
we pay 75% of health insurance
monthly public transit pass
we pay for lunch

Those are what's in our contract. He gets a lot more time off than that - we take much more than two weeks vacation, we often take him when we travel and then will give him some time off where we've traveled to. DH gives him tickets to ball games a few times a season, etc.

I'm an MB but just wanted to add my 2 cents in regards to sick days. We pay out any unused sick days rather than lump them in with PTO.

Agree with PP that maybe you want to reclassify the sick days as personal days. To be used for illness, doctors appointments, or any short notice needs for time off. So not necessarily sick days but for use with little notice. I view sick days as compensation, so we should by all means be able to use them, but as nannies there is so much pressure to never use them that they often go to waste.

My compensation is similar to yours, in NW DC, but I get 9 paid holidays, and both weeks of vacation are my choosing.

In retrospect, I wish my sick days could be used as vacation time. I take maybe two sick days per year because I feel bad leaving my family in a bind, but I'd jump for more time off.

I'm getting ready to sign a contract for a 2nd year with my families (share) and I'm wondering what I should ask for. I get $20/h and $30 overtime. I have 5 sick days off (which I've never used and probably I won't by the end of the contract). I have 6 federal holidays off and working 50h a week.We are in NW DC and wondering what standards are in this area (I worked in NY for 6 years before so I'm totally new here)
