Technically, you did not lie. You did say it was clean based on insurance information.
My last interview, I was honest and told the parents that I had one speeding ticket, even though I knew it would not show up on the insurance.
Maybe next time you interview, you could say, well, I had some issues when I was younger, but you can now see my driving record is excellent and I have had no accidents or tickets since such and such date.

Op here. I asked my insurance company for a copy of my driving record. The document I received only went back to 2008, that's as far as I thought that your record went back. I wasn't hiding anything or hoping that these incidents wouldn't show up. I honestly forgot all about them, since its been 11 years and I was a teenager.

If I was the mb I would wonder why you had chosen not to say anything, and by saying you thought it only went back 5yrs it implies you were trying to cover up because you thought it wouldn't show up.

This is silly!!! Everyone gets a speeding ticket. And an accident 10 years ago!!! Explain the situTion. Make sur eto mention you had no intention of lieing

MB here. I would not hire you NOW, because you are not good at clear communication, which is very important to me. Keep in mind that there are a lot of lawyers in this area, and lawyers tend to be quite literal .
Had you just told me "I have not gotten a ticket or been in any accidents for the last 8 years/since I was 18/since 2003," then I'd have hired you had everything else been good.

I would just email and just let her know that you were following up on the employment offer.

For the future, I would mention that you had two minor accidents and a ticket prior to 18, but that was 10 years ago and have been a safe driver since. I would be a bit concerned that you did not tell me but I'm not sure it would be a big deal.

If you want to save this job. Email her and list the situation. If you have the one in writing that was clean attach it and then clarify the new info. Apologize.

You did lie, I don't think you thought you were lying but you did not tell the truth. You need to own it and rephrase how you respond when asked about your driving background. I would reach out and do damage control with the potential mb.

I applied for a job, was told it was pretty much mine and they just wanted to run a background check and check my references. MB checked my references and emailed this past Tuesday that they had wonderful things to say about me and that she would let me know as soon as the background check came back and then she would email the work agreement for negotiation. The next day (Wednesday) I got an alert from care.com that my background check was ready to be viewed. My background part came back fine but my driving record came back with 2 minor accidents and a speeding ticket from 2003 when I was 18. Before applying to jobs I got a printout from my insurance company that listed no incidents and I have no points on my license and have an "excellent driver discount". In my application I wrote that I have a clean driving record based on information from my insurance agent. This is obviously not the case since these incidents showed up. Now it's Saturday and I still haven't heard from potential MB.

MBs would you pass on a candidate that had these things show up from over 10 years ago specifically from when she was a teenager, but nothing since? I'm worried she's going to think I lied about my record. I didn't! I was basing my driving record in what I received from my insurance agency. I was very surprised to see something so old even show up. I thought employers couldn't go back more than 5 years.

I want to email MB on Monday, if I haven't heard from her by then to "check in", since in her email she mentioned contacting me when the background check came in and send me the work agreement "this week". Should I try to explain the driving record thing or just wait and see if she mentions it? I have the printout from my insurance company I can share with her.
