Been with my employer for 4 years, and I guess trust is still the issue. We stay home most of the day aside from walking around the neighborhood. Trust your nannies.

From the get-go basically. Nanny lives not far from us so she knows the area; we live in the suburbs so it's not nerve-wracking city driving. Now she drives them all over including to Baltimore sometimes for a fun day trip. Honestly though it never occurred to me to ban her from driving them places even at the beginning.

although we never restricted our nanny from driving our DC, I would say it formally happened around 6 months when we signed them up for a music class. we didn't want them cooped up in the house all day. she also drove our DC down the road to the library for story hour or for a play date in the neighbrohood when the weather was bad and didn't want to push the stroller in the rain.

MB here. We had twin infants. When the nanny drove them wasn't a function of when we trusted her enough, it was a function of when they actually needed a level of stimulation and activity that couldn't be provided within walking distance in our neighborhood. That happened around the year mark - when they started walking and talking.

But it was driven (ba dum bum) by their needs - not my anxiety.

OP here. Yes, I am struggling with the trust issue. Our nanny has only been with us a month so I may wait another month and give it a go.

MB here: I felt like every other new mom. I was terrified to let someone new drive my baby around. BUT, I recognized this was irrational fear talking, and I needed to just pull off the bandaid. After they came back safe the first time, I was able to relax a little bit.

It's hard to trust someone else with your child, but I think you have to let go.

It's good for the baby to be out and about, but that can include walks in a stroller. For driving the baby, the threshold question is when the parents feel comfortable.

I've never had any age restrictions related to driving my charges. I also have a better driving record than most of my employers.

I've been driving my charges since they were two months all over my city or taking public transit. I've never worked for a family that had an age restriction and all my families were first time parents. Maybe I've been lucky or radiate safety and trust

I'm so relieved we live in the city and can walk or use mass transit to get everywhere. We've had the same caretaker for the kids for almost 3 years and driving them has literally never come up once.

At around a year to a toddler music class and back only. At 2, to pre-school and back, and around that time, other occasional trips. But we live in a neighborhood with a park and a library in walking distance and regular neighborhood playgroups and play dates so driving is not really necessary.

We're wondering when is appropriate - 6 mos? 12 mos?
