This is what's wrong with society today, most parents are afraid to tell their children no. If the child is giving a verbal warning and he or she continues with bad behavior
then a spanking is in order. If the Bible says " Spare the ROD, spoil the child"I see nothing wrong with it.


You do realize the "rod" in that line refers to a shepherd's rod, right? The kind you herd/lead with, not the kind you beat with.

Ignorant bible thumpers are the worst of all.

Yeah the Bible is just FULL of good advice. So spanking must be ok.

I have been spanked and no mark bruise or anything was left. A swat on the behind or hand isn't going to harm a child.

Depends on the State, but generally any spanking that leaves a mark (bruise, cut etc) is physical abuse. Temporary redness is not a mark. So if you use your hand and leave a bruise, it's still physical abuse.

I think Child Protection would not be too harsh if you spank with a hand and accidently leave a minor mark - but it is still physical abuse. Use a belt and leave a mark and you're in much more trouble.

Best way not to leave a mark is not to spank.

You're a nanny and you can't help your friend discipline without getting physical? Living together does not make the grandmother the parent. There are some states with laws against spanking, and non custodial caregivers using physical punishment. I will never understand the logic behind hitting a kid.

Oh sorry just a habit posting here since I am a nanny. No one is saying anything about abuse, a hand spanking is what I am talking about. Physical violence? No one is saying knock the child's head off.

Then why don't you post in General Parenting instead of the nanny forum?

Sparking with a hand is legal. If you start using implements you run the risk of doing enough damage (bruising, cuts to the skin) for a potential charge of abuse if someone else saw it. Too bad your friend can't figure out how to inspire obedience in children without resorting to physical violence - surely as a nanny you should be able to help her with that?

Does anyone know what supposed law states that
you can not spank your child for discipline?
My girlfriend is having serious problems with her 6
year old grand daughter, when I mentioned did
she spank her she says she doesn't want to get onto
trouble.
