This is what's wrong with society today, most parents are afraid to tell their children no. If the child is giving a verbal warning and he or she continues with bad behavior
then a spanking is in order. If the Bible says " Spare the ROD, spoil the child"I see nothing wrong with it.
You do realize the "rod" in that line refers to a shepherd's rod, right? The kind you herd/lead with, not the kind you beat with.
