We pay close to the IRS reimbursement rate. I believe it's about 56 cents a mile now. We pay about 50 cents a mile and then I always round up, so it probably comes close to the IRS rate. Nanny regularly drives my oldest to music or gymnastic lessons. This fall she'll be driving our oldest to preschool twice a week. It's less than 3 miles away one way. So probably we will pay her at least $5 a day X2 = $10 each week for dropoff/pickups for oldest's school.

I have been working for this specific family for about 2 years, and driving the kid for about 1 year, and they never reimbursed me or talked about it. It didn't occur to me they had to until another family started asking me to drive their kids and asked me for how I wanted my mileage reimbursement. Sure, you should ask for any trips you take on the job with the kids. The reimbursement is not meant to cover your commute, but is meant to compensate you for on the job travel, including those 5-10 min trips.

I have a question about mileage reimbursement. I work part time for a family about 8-10 times per month, and sometimes I take the kid out with my car. I am paid 15 per hour. My question is should i ask for mileage reimbursement? I feel it is ok not to ask if I am driving the kids just to a place 5 minutes away, but now I am thinking to ask for reimbursement for a places 15-20 minutes away (30-40 minutes back and forth).
