You keep posting you are a single mom of three. How sad for the kids that you have three kids back to back being primarily raised by nannies.

It's ridiculous. If the kids play together, what can you do besides sitting, reading a book and checking on what they're doing ? As they're playing together they probably don't want to play with a grown up anyway.

I hate non drop off play dates! However most of mine have always been with the mother. Whenever I had them with a family that had a nanny the nanny couldn't wait to bolt.

But with the mothers it's usually sahm from around the neighborhood or MBs "friends". They are so nosey and try to fish for info

I know a nanny who did this. Her boss accused her of neglecting the kids (who were fine). Her boss made her understand that she was not getting paid to read a book at work.

I totally agree! I ended up having to subtly let parents know that I do things around the house and schoolwork when the kids have company. One mom insisted she preferred to be around "just incase" so I then insisted the kids could play at their house then and I'd come back later. That changed her tune. Never had to deal with other nannies just mb' s friends etc. And there was a neighbor that I swear Sat by the window waiting for me to open the garage so she and her kids could come over to play instantly! But she only wanted to snoop and gossip. I have friends and a life OUTSIDE of work. Come over when mb is home good grief

I've been fortunate that I've been able to pick and choose the playdates, with nannies/parents I actually enjoy spending time with.

I've only done a couple of these, wiggled out of the others my previous MB tried to foist on me. Yes I'm with you op, always awkward and uncomfortable trying to make small talk with random strangers. Sometimes you hit it off and it's fine, but other times you just wish you could snap your fingers and make it end.

I really really really do not want to have to entertain another adult for playdates. Just drop your kid off and LEAVE!!! I hate making small talk with other nannies who don't speak English, we have nothing in common and it's boring. The kids go and play in their room and I have to entertain the parents or nannies for 3 hours??? It's awful.
