Don't we just love the sitters who post the full names and phone numbers/personal emails of former employers on DCUM? Really now. Please use some sense.

I am the PP who said I don't get enough information from respondents. I did hire a very good nanny from DCUM, but she posted a full resume, so I had an idea she was qualified before I bothered to call her.

I think you'd be surprised how most parents hire sitters, hence the poor quality we tend to see.

And there it is - the DCUM equivalent of a snooze button.

Sweet dreams, PP!

It's really sad to say but there is so many anger and nastiness here that I probably wouldn't consider a nanny who I knew was active here.

Most nannies are likely to feel the same way about any potential employer, you know.

Yes, I'm sure. And I wouldn't blame them. The level of discourse here is often horrifying on both sides.

Most of the responses to ads I post here say something like this:

Hi. My name is xxxxxx. I am very interested in the job. You can reach me at xxxxx.

I don't respond to those. You need to post more detail about yourself and why you're a good fit.

I sincerely hope no parent expects to be given references, until you and the nanny meet, and you both are clear that you want to pursue the possibility of a commitment.

Parents should not give the nanny their references either, until there is clear mutual interest.

Did you post more than a couple of sentences and your contact info? I only respond to people who have clearly read the ad and say something specific about their interest and qualifications.

They just get too many inquiries of people who are desperate for any kind of job. Most babysitting jobs have the lowest standards/expectations of care.
