Nanny agencies had better clean up their act, or consumers will demand stiff regulation. So far, they aren't regulating themselves. Their only regulation is self-promotion and enormous fees. Their only skill is the gift of the gab.

It's easy for them to take both nannies and parents to the cleaners. And then you're right back on the phone with them a few months later, with your failed match. This abuse needs to stop.

I have even seen on some "Professional" Nanny Placement Agencies ads from families seeking nannies and in the payment section it simply says: Cash.

As long as the agency gets their placement fee, they could care less what goes on between client and nanny.

It all boils down to the bottom line.

These agencies are worse than used car lots.

This exactly!

There are a few agencies in the entire United States that insist that every nanny they place is paid legally.

I am an agent, and no, I would not work with a family who wanted to pay under the table. Of course, I have no control over what happens after the placement, but if I knew up front I would not work with them.

Of course. Most of them don't care. How do they know how you'll pay the Nanny?

Do nanny agencies work with families who want to pay the nanny "under the table" only?
