Agreed! Like I said sometimes I wish I could be reading but that is not what I am being paid to do!

OP here. Thanks for all the responses, everyone! MB knows what I do and approves but just wanted to see what other nannies are doing as well. I see other nannies at the pool reading and I get so jealous. But, that is not in my job description.

Agree! I'm envious of everyone with school-aged kids because you can sometimes play and sometimes just watch (they don't want you hanging around the WHOLE time). I've got little guys so I'm in the water with them the entire time, but for the ages listed your approach sounds perfect.

Agreed. With my 5 yo charge (who is just learning to swim) I am usually in the water with her. Pushing it I might sit on the edge with my feet in ready to jump in immediately if necessary. Her 7 yo brother is a strong swimmer, and I'm fine with him swimming around with friends and not necessarily staying right near me.

My charges are one 9-yr old girl and twin 8-yr-old boys. I generally lounge on a pool chair and watch them though I will occasionally get in and play.

I have 3 charges between 5 & 7 and i'll alternate between watching them and swimming with them. We stay for hours and they'd love for me to swim the entire time but i don't quite have their energy!

What do you guys do with the kids at the pool as far as watching them and stuff like that?
My charges are 8 and 9 so I sit on the side of the pool on a chair and keep an eye on them the entire time. If they want me to play with them I do. Usually they are too busy with their friends.
