MB here. Figure out an hourly rate you can afford that she will accept and pay her that for all the hours she works - regardless of the mix of kids/responsibilities.

You don't want to be in the business of microcalculating the time she works at varying rates - it's an unnecessary hassle and I think it would feel kind of demeaning to her.

Also, you want to preserve flexibility for yourself - what if there's a day when you don't feel well, or need to schedule a dr's appt, or want to go see a friend, etc...

Agree with PP - my rate is set per family, it doesn't change if I have the baby or not.

I have 3 children in my care, one of which is in school most days for the majority if the year. I have him for breaks, no school days, and summers. My rate stays the same throughout the year.

Should she be a happy nanny, or not?

I think that we know her answer. If we ask her, she will say "new rate for 8h". It's pretty obvious. Do you know anyone who would prefer to get lower raise? That's why we are trying to figure out what is fair objectively.

MB here. If you like her work, I would pay her the full rate for the eight hours. That will keep her happy and allow you the flexibility to leave her with both kids if you need to get something else done.

Our nanny takes care of a toddler and infant for 4h a day. Then I take care of the baby and she has only toddler under her supervision. What should we do with her rate?

It's a new situation so we haven't discussed the compensation yet.

Should we pay her full rate for 2 kids, taking no account of hours spent with one or 2 kids?

Or should we pay her 1 kid rate for 4h and 2 kids rate for the other half of a day?

What do you think?
