Let's be real. The rate for this job is probably in the $18-20/hr range. You may get some people who ask for $22.

Why don't you take it then?? Or how about all your unemployed nanny friends?

I have a job that I'm very happy in, thanks though

No unemployed nanny friends either. Of course I know some nannies who are looking, but no one I would call a friend and/or reccomend.

I agree.

I posted upthread that I'd guess, without knowing specifics, this job was in the $22-$25/hr range, but the higher end of that would be if it required me to use my MA in education, if there was a child with special needs, or if the drop-offs and pick-ups were particularly challenging. $20-$22 is a perfectly reasonable rate for your average, FT position with one child home FT and two school-aged children home PT.

I would also charge $25 to $30. A previous position included school pickup that was 45 minutes from the house. However, due to traffic it took an hour and a half. Then I did homework help and started dinner. That was after spending the day with the baby and doing child related chores. My hours were unpredictable based on how quickly I could get home from the school. Many parents outsource school pickup because it is such a nightmare! Not the same a shaking a rattle on the living room floor for an hour!

Wow, that is close to what I make and I have a masters degree and work about 50 hours/week, manage 5 staff members, deadlines, etc. Perhaps I am in the wrong profession!

I have a MA in Early Childhood Education and, if I worked for you, I would have the responsibility of three children. I would also charge you in the neighborhood of $30 an hour while ONLY do any and all housekeeping chores and errands that directly involve the children. However if you found a great candidate for $20 an hour - hire her! I'm sure I have lost many offers because of my high rate but I've always been able to find good jobs at that rate.

OP has two kids who are going to be in school full-time so all you will need to do is care for a newborn and you want $30/hr? No.

OP...$18/hr-$20/hr and you are golden. Please don't listen to the crazies on here.

I'm not crazy just educated and experienced. I earn $22 and hour for one baby and would charge considerably more for three (there are sick days, school holidays and teacher's conference days where I would need to care for all three plus every day after school). I would probably quote $25 to $30 an hour as well.

Is this a FT position OP? 40 hours a week? What benefits do you plan to offer? What are the job requirements (homework help? laundry? driving?)? How much experience do you want in your nanny? How much education? Do you plan to pay legally or under the table? The specifics go on and on.

Tl;dr Nanny rates vary dramatically based on what you want. I would charge $22-$25/hr for the job I'm guessing you have. I'm sure there are many who would charge less and some who would charge more.

Oh great, another vague "rate" question...

Go to your neighborhood playground during the week, and ask around. You'll see what you get, for what price.

My rate would be $30/hr for your job, but you'd never know, because I seem like "part of the family."

My parents were taking care of my kids but are no longer able to do so. Therefore, I am looking for a nanny and wanted to get a sense of the rates. We live in Chevy Chase, DC. Starting in the fall, I will have a 2nd grader and K student, so both in school full time. I will also have a newborn. What is the approximate rate for 3 children these days? Especially when two will be in school for the majority of the time. Also, how much do you give in terms of raises and/or bonus?
