MB here. It's not your employer's business unless your other job creates a problem. So, if you're second job is also childcare and you're exposed to something there that you might bring into my house (illness) then it becomes my business. But otherwise there's no issue IMO.
Our nanny works other jobs and we know all about them, mostly because she is bad at boundaries. But I certainly have no problem with her doing that. They never interfere with her work with us.

When I worked more than one job, I never told my main employer that I had after hours shifts elsewhere. Why would they need to know? If you do bring it up, it may come off as if you're hinting that you're looking for a new job.

No, don't tell them. I have friends with a Nanny who who were quite indignant when they found out she had taken a second job, even though she was part time with them. They figured they should know what she was doing during all hours they "may" need her. I think it's ridiculous.

It is not really their business what you do in your free time so you do not have to tell them anything.
If you are working for them full-time and you need to take on another job, I am assuming they are not paying you enough. Perhaps you can discuss a raise with them?
And you say, you may need a good reference.

No reason to tell them. Your ft job should be your priority, so the side jobs should not impact your performance in any way.

Don't tell them. A lot of parents don't allow it for conflict of interest. Though that should be noted in your contract. I wouldn't always tell your nf no.

I would only consider telling them if you thought it might have any impact on your time with them. Something like an overnight job during the week could seriously impact your sleep and therefore work performance. But if your side jobs are within the hours you would stay out for social occasions then I don't think you have any obligation.
The only benefit to you is if you did want more hours with them, or if you wanted them to make it known in their social circles that you are available for weekend sitting.

I would like to take some side jobs outside of my full time nanny job. Outside of earning more, a second job would protect me in case I have trouble getting a reference later on. It also seems like a great way to network with families who may need a full time sitter at a later date. For those reasons, I am not interested in picking up additional hours with my NF.
Should I tell my current employer? Do they have a right to know?
