Where are you located?

Use an agency OP. MetroParentRelief is the one I use for this kind of thing but there are others. It's more expensive because you have to pay agency fees but they will find you childcare and backup childcare if the person you select gets sick or something.


Two weeks is plenty of time for contacting an agency. You can even interview people if you want in that length of time.

If you can afford to toss some money into it you can absolutely find a solution.

You can try posting an ad on Care.com and Sittercity.com.
There are tons of Nannies on these sites searching for positions...Even temporary positions such as this.

Or maybe a babysitting service in your town.

You might have to pay a fee, but it would be worth it because they would already have done the background screening so you don't have to.

Sign up with Seeking Sitters or Metro Parent Relief. They'll send someone already checked out.

Personal recommendations are the best way to go. Use Craig's List as a last.... never mind, avoid Craig's List at all costs.

Post an ad on Care.Com for the two weeks you need covered. Do it NOW. You'll have better luck filling the position now that you would have if you posted it earlier as now nanny's know their schedules and know if they are free. I took a week-long job that I interviewed for the just one week before.

get another recommendation from other nannies you or your friends know and then ask if you can telework that week. I did that when my new nanny had to go to a funeral overseas unexpectedly. we used her friend, who truned out to be great, but it was more reassuring having me working from home.

Post an ad on CL for a college kid who hasn't gotten a summer job yet. Demand references and give a very short leash.

Our nanny is going out of town for two weeks. The person we hired to fill in while she is away is no longer available. I now have two weeks to figure out a solution. Our families can't help. Each of us could take time off but that is not the ideal solution. Does anyone have ideas?
