I'm always barefoot

I live in Canada and it's considered gross not to take your shoes off when you enter someone's house. Going barefoot is not a problem - I imagine if an employer had a huge issue with it, they'd ask you to bring/wear socks right off the bat.

I'm pretty much always barefoot at work... I don't want to be traipsing whatever is on the bottom of my shoes in someones house.

I used to live in Atlanta and I agree, everyone wears sandals all summer so if you take your shoes off you will be barefoot. Which is sometimes a little weird in a new home/with new people. OP, I totally get your question.

But I think the answer is to simply ask when you arrive, visibly clad in sandals (sans socks), if they'd like you to take off your shoes. If they say yes, you're fine to go barefoot. I also think you should pack in your purse some of the footie socks they make for wearing with ballet flats, so if they say yes and the floor is disgusting, you've got something to stick on your feet!

I ask whenever I enter someone's home if I should remove my shoes, and I go with whatever they tell me. While working with kids I prefer to be barefoot, as I am less likely to slip with them in my arms.

I am a nanny who does some babysitting on the weekends.
I live in Atlanta, which is very, very warm. I prefer to wear flip flops or sandals during the summer months, as they're easy to slip on and off while chasing after little ones. I walk barefoot in the homes of my MB/DB and in those of longtime babysitting clients.
When I am hired to babysit for someone I've never met, I plan my clothing around what I can wear with socks and shoes...which means I am usually sweltering or I also take socks to put on. I always try to be considerate and respectful of others in their homes, but it's kind of a pain. I don't want to ask someone right as I'm meeting them if I should wear socks in their house.
Do you mind if a babysitter walks barefoot in your home?
