I can't believe your employers don't provide you with a car or let you take the kids in your car. When I was a young mother in SoCal, I would take the kids out everyday to an air-conditioned place with activities. Kudos to you nannies for keeping the kids entertained and cool anyway!

I've lived in LA all my life and have never seen weather like this in May - it rarely gets this hot in the dead of summer.

I'll be inside all day today and hating it. So will my little charge - he'll ask to see "doggies" (how he asks to go for a walk - we see lots of dogs) every ten minutes.

Man 101 today and tomorrow or hotter. Over 95 on Friday!! Then hopefully a relief by Saturday they are say back to the 70s

Crazy weather!!!!

I rushed the baby out for a morning walk just to get outside today and then spent the day inside. Horrid. I let the baby play in the bath and also discovered that he laughs hysterically when I fling his stuffed animals around in circles!

And tomorrow is another HOT day. I'm going nuts staying inside all afternoon.

What did everyone do today (socal nannies).

My charges wake up late (830 am). So we played inside a bit, practiced counting and remembering games. Breakfast and dressed. My charges love the bank for some reason so we went for a walk to the bank then our local smoothie spot. Came home did diapers and into bathing suits. We played out side with the hoses and baby pool. They made chalk paint (watered down chalk) and drew all over the drive way.
Lunch at 1pm and now nap. They nap later 2 - 4 which is normally the hottest time of the day for us in the valley. Probably wake snack and back outside for when mom gets home. Normally we are outside 6 hrs or more but today it will be less. Booo to the heat.

I'm in SC, too. I don't know what is greater than "sucks" but this week is going to be miserable for all of us. My charge is a newborn and our usual two a day walks are more for me than for him. Ten hours stuck in the house is going to be hell for me. I have to say I couldn't be a nanny if I lived where nannies can't take their kids outside for months at a time due to cold. They should be making fifty bucks an hour!!!!

I live on the west coast of BC and it was in 70 degrees today - hot enough for me! I don't know how you survive, OP

I'm not sure how old your charge is but water play could be perfect. I fill up a large but low plastic tub that my charges can splash around in (they're 16 months)

This is why I live in Oregon. We're getting a hat wave too, but it's 80, not 90s. Thank goodness.

Ugh I'm in the Valley too! Hate the triple digits.
Going to the park is out. There were is no shade (why who knows why they did that). The slides are burning hot by 10 am the sand is worse.
Lots of water play!! I'm going to have my charges "wash" all outside wagons, bikes, carts well everything. Plus water chalk art and making mud.

If anyone is close to Glendale the wadding pools are open you just have to check which one the life guard is at. Plus it's free

Another SC nanny here - what is greater than "sucks"?! My NF is in the Valley - we're expecting 110 on Wednesday. My choice is crazy kids inside or risking heat stroke outside. It's only 6:40AM here and it's already hot.

OP here: Yes, we will still be able to take our morning walks but the afternoon walk is out -- and the afternoons get so LONG in the house!!! And the only place I can take the baby to are places that we can walk to (MB/DB will not let me take the baby in my car) and it will be too hot to walk.

Sucks. Seriously, I don't know how you guys did it all winter.

I second the morning walks if you can make it work, or take trips to air conditioned venues (library, museums, etc.)

Ugh, I'm an East Coast nanny who was stuck inside this winter due to the cold & snow so I definitely empathize. Can you possibly take your charge for a walk in the mornings before it gets even hotter? It doesn't break up the day as much but at at least its outside time. Good luck! Hopefully the weather will be better next week.

We are having our second heat wave in three weeks - it's going to be in the high 90's all week this week - far too hot to take a baby in a cranial remolding helmet outside for a walk in the afternoons. My charge really enjoys her walks and I NEED them! I go nuts being in the house all day. I really feel for you east coast nannies stuck inside all winter.

I've never know us to have such scorching hot weather so early in spring. God, I am dreading this entire week.
