So you find the idea of being employed by someone who doesn't share your religious beliefs to be "uncomfortable," but a sitter deciding to share a religious text of another faith with their charge is fine? No. This is a complete double standard. I am a christian myself, but christians like you make me ashamed to own it. Christ taught that we will know His followers by the love, kindness and respect they show for ALL of His children, and treating the deeply-held beliefs of others as invalid and not worthy of consideration is NOT the christian way.[/quote]
I have a problem with it because they are so judgemental and have a problem with it. I don't see how people don't love honor and respect the bible. None believers or Jewish, Muslim ect blows my mind that other religions exist.[/quote]
Non-believers are judgemental or YOU are judgemental? You seriously do not understand that throughout time and across the planet that multiple religions have been created to explain the unknown? That alone should be proof enough that your religious book was not truly sent by god or he would have sent the same one to everyone. My personal beliefs are beside the point, NP here, but I will be sure to explain religion as a whole to my child. I would also have a serious problem with ANYONE teaching my child their beliefs as though they are facts, because they aren't! If I were OP, she would be fired. And if I was questioned on my religious beliefs in hiring or applying for a job, that would not be okay. People do have different religions, even if that is too big a theory for you to grasp, and it is a very personal choice of how and what to believe. I hope that you one day expand your mind to see that other's beliefs are no lesser than yours.

You would fire over this ? It's a book. No harm was done, no malice. If someone fired me over this Lord help me or help them .

I am a nanny and I have read the Bible to my charges, but only because that was their own kid Bible and that was the book for their bed time story, even if I asked them to choose another and they insisted on that. But, just talk to your nanny and tell her you are not comfortable with that. Each family is different, so she may have assumed it was ok.

I am very devout in my faith, and I would NEVER dream of sharing beliefs that the parents do not share. I have shared scripture verses and stories only with charges whose families share my religion. My current charges are hindu (I am christian) and the only thing remotely religious I have ever shared has been an old irish lullabye that talks about a grave, and even then I stopped singing it to them once they were verbal. Your sitter is WAY out of line!

Im a nanny and never, ever read religious material to children. That is horrible and you should find someone else ASAP. She could just as easily be saying things ("Jesus doesn't like that" or "Bad little boys go to hell") throughout the day that reinforce her own beliefs. Completely unacceptable. Indoctrination is, I suppose, the right of the parents but absolutely NOT that of any other caregiver. Find someone better.
When I work with older children conversations do ultimately arise, so I usually talk with the parents beforehand about my own beliefs (I'm a Buddhist) and how I tend to address questions (usually just asking kids what they think and leaving it at that). But that's like, 10yo+ Kids, so you have a ways to go before this should ever be an issue.

The care-giver was IN THE WRONG - 100% - not doubt about it!!!! OMG, I would be furious if I ever came home and saw someone reading the bible to my child!!!! How dare anyone presume that this would be okay?

When I got home tonight, our very as-needed caregiver was reading Bible verses to my child. She's only been with us a few days. She's made comments about her faith, which I respect. But, the idea that after a few days, she's reading Bible versus to my child without asking how we feel about that says that she doesn't respect our religious views about parenting. She doesn't know what they are, because they have never come up in conversation. I don't care today that it was happening. But, there's a certain age where material like that will trigger questions from children. I don't want any nanny or babysitter discussing religion with my child. Those are our discussions to have. Just wondering if other parents have had similar concerns.
