There are many nannies out there who will be good with your children and be punctual OP. I am one of them for example.

You need to fire this nanny. She is not just unprofessional, she is taking you and her job for granted. This is just unprofessional.

I would never put up with this horrible work ethic.

And neither should you.


This is going to be constant stress all around and not worth it.

Ugh, sorry OP! You can certainly find someone who's wonderful with your kids AND takes her job seriously/arrives on time. The best nannies I know arrive 10-15 min early so they have time to get settled (make coffee, put away coats and bags, etc) and catch up with their MB/DB. This often helps with the ease of transition too since nanny's arrival doesn't automatically mean mom's departure. If you find your new nanny doing this you'll know you found a gem.

I don't work in the nanny biz but take note employees, this was the #1 reason people got fired when I managed a customer service group/call center. They simply would.not.get.there.on.time and despite being warned over and over they would come in late. It sucks because they were usually great workers, but we had a company policy and could not allow people to be late over and over! It didn't matter if their shift started at 8am, 2pm, 4pm, some people just don't get it! Sorry OP

1. Because then on days where she showed up on time OP would have to pay her for an extra half hour
2. There are plenty of great nannies out there who are capable of being on time - OP shouldn't have to make insane concessions like this to keep an irresponsible nanny

I'm a nanny and I have never - one once - been late. Never. I would not tolerate chronic lateness from my employers either.

No one can live happily with the uncertainly of whether or not their childcare was going to be on time that day or not. I generally side with nannies on most issues - but not this one. Fire her.

This really is just a vent because we are currently looking for a new nanny due to our current nannies chronic lateness. On the days I have to be at work she has been better but on the days I don't go to work she is pretty much always late. Most of the time it doesn't matter that much but today is a particularly busy day (which she was aware of in advance). All 3 children have different places to be and I also have to take our car in to be fixed. She was 20 minutes late this morning (without even a text to say she was running late) so now I am running 20 minutes behind for all the places I need to be. I've said all there is to say to her so I know there is nothing left to say. She's so good with the children it's been hard finding a good replacement but in a way her being late today helped make it a little easier.
