I don't believe that you have never felt taken advantage of.

For me it depends on how long the training is. Coming over to the house for an hour or two to learn where everything is, get a feel for the house/the kids, maybe drive through the neighborhood with MB or DB to learn how to get to the kids favorite parks/pools/etc, fine if that's unpaid. Working for a full work day or more then I should be paid, even if that's a slightly lower training wage. I've never gotten to the point of a training without knowing what the pay will be. In fact, I've never gone past the end of a first interview without knowing what the pay would be.

Hell NO!!

My time is just as important as anyone else's.

And for any family to treat me like this just goes to show that they think so little of me that they would expect me to adhere to this plan means that I would never want to have anything at all to do w/them.

These types of families tend to view their nannies as the "hired help" and do not value their nannies as actual human beings.

+1. MB here. We always pay for training/trial time.

Would you be willing to be trained by a family for several days who cannot even say upfront how much they can pay you? I think that's kinda odd and if I were the nanny applicant I wouldn't accept te offer in the first place. How about you?
