I just keep my personal items like that in my tote bag which I bring in and take each day along with my meals. I think it's a little high maintenance to keep all that in their house, but,I also wouldn't complain if I was them, it's really not a big deal.

I would never assume it was ok to leave stuff at someone's house unless I asked. I had one live out job where I did, but that was because I had my own room because I sometimes was needed to stay overnight.
The courteous thing would have been to ask first.

I keep stuff like that, but also an extra set of clothes at my NF's house. Just in case I get spit/thrown up on, or caught in the rain, so I have a spare change of clothes while my stuff is in the dryer.
I did ask them if it's ok if I leave some stuff there, and they had absolutely no problem with it.

I think it is bizarre that the DB would care about a basket of personal items in the back of a bathroom cabinet. It was probably some weird flashback to his bachelor days when his girlfriends tried to leave their personal items in his apartment. I think communication is always better than presumption though, even when it seems like anyone in their right mind wouldn't mind such a thing, because you never know with people and their quirks! In the future you might just say "would it be ok if I left a few personal items in this small basket in the bathroom cabinet?" first.

The bathroom isn't used by the family OR guests? Ever? Agree with PP - someone saw your basket and commented on it. And it's a little wierd. Those are all things you can throw in a tote bag, bring into the house, put down and not carry around all day, and then take home. The bag can live in your car if it's really that inconvenient to carry them around. But I carry most of that stuff in my purse all the time anyway - not sure how it's THAT inconvenient either ....

MB here. My nanny doesn't keep anything in my house. I work in an office and have a makeup bag that goes in my purse that has all the stuff you mentioned in travel sizes. When I have my period I take a second makeup bag and stuff it with tampons and put that in my purse as well.

By you just bringing in your personal stuff and putting it somewhere it seems like you're moving in somehow. It's weird.

If you were my nanny and asked, I'd say okay and just think it's weird but fine. Your mistake was not to ask.

Someone used that bathroom, saw your basket, and commented on it. That embarrassed your DB. You do not need to have these items stashed in their home unless you are a live-in.

I have never kept personal items at the house. I carry a larger tote bag to work and in it carry my personal things. Instead of brining a purse to work, I just put my wallet in my tote and leave that at the house. I don't find his request odd at all, I would think it's a little awkward and forward to leave personal items in their home

Get a small cosmetic bag or one of those cloth snack bags and put your stuff in there and keep in your purse or backpack. Wouldn't take up much room, especially if you use OB or similar applicator free tampon. Seems worweird to leave that kind of stuff. When I had a car I left it there and put a few OB in my pocket when I needed them.

I have never left personal items, other than food, at a NF's home or any other work place I have been it. Keep it in your purse, bring a bigger bag if you need to, it's not that difficult. I would be uncomfortable if a basket of someone else's personal items appeared in my home without warning as well (I doubt it was the tampons, presumably your DB is used to seeing those...).

I'm an MB and while I really wouldn't care if the nanny left a little basket like that I would think it was kind of weird if she didn't at least mention that she was putting it there and I just came upon it. I also don't really understand why you can't keep a little toothbrush and toothpaste/floss in your purse. It's not like it's heavy and takes up a lot of space. And you only need tampons a few days out a month so you can't just put those in your purse when you need them?

I have been a professional nanny for many years.
I have worked for my current family for 7 months. To each job I've had (3 in 7 years), I've brought a small basket of hygiene items. It contains things like toothpaste, floss, extra hairbands, brush, deodorant, etc. I can only guess he is uncomfortable because it contains tampons. I place the basket in the back of the bathroom cabinet of a bathroom that isn't used by the family or guests. It's very discreet.
I enjoy my NF but was a bit shocked by something DB requested.
Before he left for work, he told me that he would be more comfortable if I didn't leave "such personal items" in the house but carried them in my purse instead. I work in their home over 50 hours per week. Having these types of items on hand is essential.
It would be a huge hassle to carry them in my purse.
I kindly and professionally told him that I wouldn't be able to carry them in my purse and asked if there is a better place to put the basket, as I need these things while I work in their home.
He seemed to agree with me and told me to "never mind." I know MB would be pissed to hear that he asked me this.
Is it unusual for nannies to keep these things at work?
MBs, would you be upset if nanny kept items like these in your home?
I'm a bit perplexed. It's never been an issue before.
