Easter is a celebration of spring and rebirth.
If you're hunting eggs, eating chocolate and sitting with a strange bunny its not a jesus holiday.

Op here, thanks for all the replies. It seems that people are fairly divided on this issue. The parents always say thank you and tell me it was really sweet that I spent so much of my time, money and energy on doing an egg hunt for the kids. The kids always know it's a "practice egg hunt " and I always tell the parents my intentions but I've only once straight up asked a parent of it was okay. I've been with my main nanny family over 4 years and the boys always have so much fun and the first few times the parents offered to reimburse me for the aid I bought. Of course I said no but I don't think they would have offered to pay if they were upset I did it in the first place. The other family I've only been with for 8 months so I waited until the end of my shift to do the egg hunt so the parents could watch. The kids LOVED it and the parents said thank you many times so I'm assuming they were okay with it too. Also, just to clarify, I barely give the kids any candy in the eggs. It's mainly stickers, little toys and fruit snacks because I know they all get candy from the egg hunts with the parents.

I do all holiday related activities with my charges. My bosses encourage it. I did an easter egg hunt with my charges, and it was one out of four egg hunts that they did this month. It's not a big deal.

Wow, I've never even thought this would be a problem! I've been a nanny for over 10 years and as long as my families are Christian and/or don't mind their children celebrating Christian holidays I definitely do holiday related things. Egg hunts are a definite! I probably wouldn't bring them to see Santa without asking but once I took my charge trick or treating at the mall.

Our nanny did a little hunt with clues with our kids, it was very sweet. They didn't think it was the Easter bunny doing the hiding, they knew it was her. She also got them each a little Easter basket with little presents that were very appropriate to each of them. I felt bad we didn't get her some chocolates but am thinking we will get her some or a little bunch of spring flowers next week.

Our nanny does holiday activities with DC during the week and we do at nights and weekends. So DC did a small egg hunt today with the nanny and will go see Easter bunny with us tomorrow.

I tend to run holiday activities by the parents first just to ensure no boundaries are being crossed. My 1st nanny family could care less (both were VERY career oriented and I pretty much spent 65 hours a week for 4 years raising their children). 2nd nanny family was happy to have me do holiday related arts and crafts but they did the main things like seeing santa, egg hunts, etc with their kids. My current family are twin babies so it hasnt come up yet.

Well...I take them to the weekday Easter egg hunt and their parents take them to the one over the weekend. It's never been an issue and I know lots of nannies/families who do the same.

Because this would be the my charges first Easter she actually understands what is going on (kind of).

We did practice hunts in the living room with plastic eggs and fluffy toy bunnies.

I would rather the parents see the joys on their kids faces when they do this new activity or adventure. That and I don't work holidays

I would never do something as significant as that with a charge. Definitely stepping on the parents' toes.

I got the boys I work with (well technically they're in school and I mainly care for their baby sister) a small box of Easter candy from See's and hid it. Then I left clues around the house to help them find the candy. You could try something like that instead.

I usually clear anything tied to a holiday or anything like apple picking by MB/DB first. Yes, they'll do it with their parents, but it won't be as fun/special as the first time.

I had a nanny friend take her charges to go see Santa without clearing it with her bosses first. She figured since they worked 50 hrs a week they wouldn't want to stand in line on the weekend. I told her she was nuts. Luckily (at least from what she told me) the parents handled the situation professionally and just asked for holiday activities to be run by them first.

I wanted to know if any of the nannies on this board do Easter egg hunts with their charges? I did them today with both of the families I work for. After we were playing at the park with some of the local friends and nannies when my charge brought up that they just did and Easter egg hunt. All of the moms and nannies said they thought that was strange. I do them every year and never really thought about it. Now I'm wondering if it's weird that I do Easter egg hunts with my charges? Do you think maybe moms feel like I'm taking something away from them? Of course I know they do them with their parents, but is it so eird
