To answer your actual question and weed through these useless responses, 13 an hour sounds fine to me for a date night. The no car is nothing also. I have requested rides to and from work if my own family is unable to drive me as I do not have a car. Please if you feel more comfortable, its totally fine to ask why the change in advertised rate from 5-10 to $13. It could be that is per child. I typically go with base rate of $10 and then add if there's more children involved. But $13 seems totally fair and would get you and your husband out for a date night!

Yes she posted that range but it will always vary depending on the needs of the family. If you had one kid you wanted care for full time maybe she would take $10/hr, but you only need her for a few hours and have two kids so that costs more.

Maybe the $5-$10 thing was simply a mistake. That's what you all like to say when parents offer that in their ads.

OP here, she's 19 years old with 3 years of experience. She's worked with two previous families and summer camps.

Does it mean something other than what it says, $5-10 per hour? Isn't $5/hr illegal for an 18 year old hourly wage?

Look up your fact before you make useless comments. Depending on the age of the sitter, $5/hr is legal.

You're supposed to be over the age of 18 to have a care.com account. PP made a reasonable assumption. If you're going to be an ass, at least be accurate.

Try learning to research or read before calling names and making yourself look ignorant.

Really strange she asked for 5-10 and then said 13

She advertised $5-10, then demanded $13 even with a ride? That's weird and I'd see that as a red flag, honestly.

It's fair until she gets a better offer.

If she asked for $13 and you're comfortable with $13, then its perfectly fine.

I originally posted this under the Daycare forum on Friday and not sure where Jeff moved it. Hopefully I'm in the right one this time. I found a sitter on care.com who advertised her rate at $5-$10 per hour. Her English isn't t that great, but since we have biracial and bilingual kids we are ok with that. She doesn't have transportation, so I offered to pick her up and drop her off. It's about a 10-12 minute drive. She asked for $13 per hour, but should it be more because it's two kids or less because we provide transportation. Or is $13 fair? I would like to keep her long term. Thanks
