$12 - $14/hour plus all the financial penalties and potential jail time you'll earn by hiring an illegal.

Very few are paid over $20/hr unless they are looking after 3+ children.

OP, expect to pay $16-18/hr, legally, and include benefits such as 2 weeks paid vacation, guaranteed hours, sick time and holidays.

If you are paying legally, on the books, you are required to pay nannies an hourly rate. This is an issue often argued on here, so be warned.

One thing that is common in the DC area is that if you do not use the nanny for a full 50 hours one week, you still pay her the full 50 hours. This is called guaranteed pay.

For 50 hours per week, you're looking at an hourly rate in the range of $15-18 per hour for the first 40 hours, and time and a half for the remaining 10 hours.

Hi, we will be moving to DC next month and will be looking for a nanny to care for our newborn full time and to pick up our older DC from school and look after her as well (3-6:30). Can you please advise what would be the going rate for a legal nanny. We would need about 50 hours a week. Do nannies expect an hourly or weekly salary? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
