Are you a licensed care provider? Has the home that the care is being provided in been inspected? Doubt it. This is not a nanny share. Its a daycare. If you are running it in any other way it is illegal. Its not about your care. You seem to be unable, intentionally or not, to understand the actual laws.

I live in NYC and the daycare regulations require no more than 6 children per daycare provider, so it seems to me like 4 children per one person is definitely doable

My comment wasn't rude, it was an unfortunate truth. This ratio breaks child to caregiver ratio laws in MD and DC, and is right on the line in VA for LICENSED daycare centers. Are you licensed as a daycare center? Do you think OPs nanny is? At these ratios, you should be. Sorry sweetie pie, being "excited" and "capable" doesn't make something legal. But, as I said before, I doubt you care and neither does OP. this is NOT what is best for the children.

I began with the two families when their first children were about 2 months old and they recently both gave birth to their next two children. The older children will be going off to school in the fall but neither of the families nor I wanted to break up the nanny share since they would only have one child (each) needing care in the fall.

I agree with the above posters. If you were to do a share, you're looking at $28+ per hour, or $14+ per family. And I would say that's for a nanny with less than 5 years experience. That's not any real savings, IMO, if you can find a nanny for one family for $15 - 16/hour.

I would seriously consider what 12:21 posted, if you want or need the ability to "share" in emergencies or want to have a tag team situation occasionally

MB here. That is a LOT of small children. I'd be pretty nervous about burn-out for the nanny, attention for the kids, and long term feasibilty of this plan.

I would think you'd have to pay the nanny at least mid to high 20's to get someone who could handle this. At that salary level (each family $13/15 per hour) I think you should each get a nanny and arrange to have them work as a team sometimes so that each could be an emergency back-up for the other. If you ran the searches at the same time and hired with the understanding that you were looking for this sort of collaboration, perhaps you could wind up with two great nannies who work well together, could socialize the kids together (or even split up so that sometimes the toddlers get excursions while the infants stay home) and one nanny could, in a pinch handle the other's absense (with compensation of course).

I agree with the PP. I was thinking minimum of $25/hour. That's 4 kids under 4! (Now that I wrote that I think maybe the rate should be closer to $30/hour!)

My rate would be at minimum $26/hour, or $1100/week, a full 2 weeks off at my own choosing, and an additional week at yours. If the rate sounds high, it should, and I do think you'd both be better off getting your own nanny. If both MBs will be around some, you could get your own less experienced but great nanny for $13-$15/hour and train her.

Any nannies out there willing to chime in with the hourly/weekly rate they would accept for a two-family share with four kids total -- a 3 yo, 1.5 yo, and two infants (late spring/summer arrivals)? Both MBs have flexible/work-from-home schedules so would be around some, especially while the new babies are very small.
