Beware of people with poor boundaries. Next they'll ask to see what color panties you're wearing. OP dodged a bullet here.

One of my NF seemed very interested in where I lived.

They knew the general area (about 5 miles from them).

One day I took a ton of pictures on my phone and just let them look at them. They were very happy to see where I live, and a bit shocked I had it designed nicely and had expensive entertainment equipment. But overall, I think they just wanted a small insight into my life because I'm in their home 10 hours a day.

Is that why you're trying to hire OP?

It's not me. We're still trying to see if our current nanny will work out.

A family could offer me $100/hour and I would say no to this. So, so incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful towards you. No sense of boundaries, apparently. This is ah huge red flag! Nuts!

No, in less you are bringing the child to your home.

I've had potential employers want to talk to my parents as well (I'm now 24 but began nannying at 19). The answer has always been a big fat NO. Take it as a huge red flag OP, when a potential employer is already not respecting you, or professional boundaries. In my case, I couldn't work for someone who didnt see and respect me as an adult. I also couldn't work for someone who can't recognize what is and is not their business. Are they going to want to meet your boyfriend's too?

I kinda get it, definitely have never been asked for a home tour, but I can see the appeal of it. You would be able to see how you live, if you smoke or have anything bad out, if you keep a clean, organized house, etc. That being said, it is incredibly out of line and none of your business if you take awhile to do your dishes or like to reward yourself with the occasional cigarette after a hard day of work. ISince they aren't even offering standard rate pay, I would politely decline their request and move on to the next down the list if you don't feel comfortable allowing them access to your home.

Unless there is some discussion of you watching their child/children in your own home, this makes no sense.

They're offering $12/hour. Obviously want the world and can't afford it. Let me guess, they also wanted only bilingual nannies with a degree, and "light" housekeeping duties? Lol

Ok, I get the background checks and driving history checks, I even understand why a family would want to check my credit history. But why in the world would my home make a difference to a family????

Obviously I'm not considering this job mostly due to the fact they are only offering $12/hour and I typically make $18+. I just don't understand the demand for the for checking out the nanny's home. Has this happened to anyone? Employment contingent on a tour of the nanny's home?
