Subject: Hourly rate for nanny metro accessible in-town location
My husband and I have to report all employees of our household as we work in national security. Our work places require financial disclosure and a credit check of all employees. I understand it sounds unconventional.
Most federal employees have to disclose all financial holdings publicly and report any outside employment or any people they hire and or pay. That is why the credit check is necessary. Our office needs to have complete transparency as we work in national financial security and need to make sure no potential risks to us or our employer

Credit check? Is that fairly standard?
No, it's not, unless the nanny is also the household manager doing the family's bookkeeping.

I think you'll be able to find someone in the $16-$18 range. But I wouldn't expect that you'd find someone with a degree or ECE credits (or even any higher ed at all). Most of those nannies can probably find a job with overtime hours that can boost their pay.

I think $16-$18, before taxes, would be perfectly acceptable, unless the candidate you choose has everything on your list and more (bilingual and English proficient, experienced beyond 5 years, degree in a related field, etc), then you're looking at the top of your range, up to maybe $20/hour. Transportation subsidies are not a common benefit, but if you are willing to offer it, it would certainly make your job stand out. Good luck!

I was thinking $20/hr. My husband $15-18. Is the rate you quote before or after taxes? Do families include benefits like transit subsidies or car insurance?

Your dream candidate qualities are pretty typically found in nannies in this area.
For one child $15-$17/hr will get you excellent candidates. If you have two, $16-$18/hr would be good.

My husband and I are considering hiring a nanny. What is the hourly rate for a nanny in the inner suburbs of DC (think Clarendon/Bethesda/Silver Spring/Alexandria) ? We are within walking distance (less than 10 minutes) of a metro and my husband is an accountant so he can do payroll/taxes. We are interested in an experienced nanny for infants or toddlers. English proficiency is a must; bi-lingual is a bonus. We would like a nanny with 3-5 years experience--at a minimum--caring for infants in either a group/center or in-home setting. Our dream candidate would be CPR/infant first aid certified, have at least three years experience as a child care provider and a background in early childhood education or pursuing a degree. We would be interested in hours 7 am - 5 pm Monday-Thursdays with Fridays off. I want to provide a fair and equitable wage and would like a high-quality provider. Due to the nature of our jobs, the candidate would need to be legal to work in the US and submit to a credit check, criminal background check and child abuse and neglect, domestic violence check.
