I think it's fine. Most corporate jobs give two weeks or less, plus she is covered six wks as far as money goes. Should be enough time to find a new position!

You haven't given any details so how can we know? If she's being fired for cause, notice might not be necessary. If she's been your beloved nanny helping to raise all of your children from birth for 5+ years, 4 weeks and 2 weeks severance is on the low end.

Is six weeks notice (technically, 4 weeks notice plus 2 weeks severance pay/bonus) reasonable? I would love to give eight but I don't think I will be able to swing it.
