As a live in nanny who makes 825 a week or 15 per hr plus overtime I believe you pay for the service you get. I have been a live in nanny for over 10 years. I have set hrs 8-6 . But if the children wake up at 5 am I start work to help the parents out. Yes I am paid extra for this. If on a Saturday morning the parents don't want to make breakfast and take the children to an 8 am soccer game I am there and can do it. It's all about having someone available to you 24/7.

Some nannies don't want to provide this amount of convenience to their employers. However I have found in my experience it helps give me job security and I never have to look for jobs when I'm no longer needed as my reputation proceeds me. In the last 10 years I have worked for 3 long term families.

Generally, for a FT live-in. The rate is 2-4$ leas per hour. This can vary on the type of accommodations provided ( room only up to completely separate suite with kitchen and private entrance) and other perks (like full board, car, etc)

For part- time, 10-15 hours is usually done as a strict exchange for room-board. Anything between you can adjust on a sliding scale.

Note that live ins are still hourly workers and must be paid for every hour they work.

I'm sure this has been discussed in previous threads before, but searching "live-in" brings up a variety of threads that don't apply to my question.

Is there an appropriate way to think about what a live-in should get paid relative to live-out? Is it cheaper to have a live-in? Same? It doesn't make sense that it'd be more. Is there a standard discount relative to live-out?

If I pay $1000/week for live-out, what would be the appropriate rate if she were live-in?
