OP I am thrilled you found a nanny you like but in the future please don't be spooked when a nanny has multiple interviews - you'll interview multiple nannies to find the right fit, she'll interview multiple families. Especially in a situation like this where the interviews are already scheduled, to me that shows a loyalty to her commitments and a higher level of maturity. Just in the future, I think what you did is fine (glad you called!) but it's a normal thing to encounter in quality nannies - lots of families want them and they want to find the family they see the best potential with.

I am curious as to what she said and how she took the news? I've heard of many nannies claiming to be entertaining multiple offers or familes just to families will hire them asap.

Tell her before she turns another position down.

If you are not capable of dealing with issues like this over the phone, you are entirely unsuitable to be employing a nanny.

It's a cop-out. Put on your big girl panties and call to say "Hi Larla. I just wanted to let you know that we got a little spooked when you said you were interviewing with multiple families so we kept interviewing too, and we decided to offer the job to someone else. I wanted to let you know as soon as DH and I made the offer and had it accepted, so you can go forward with your other possibilities. It was great meeting you; we wish you the best of luck."

*Do NOT text this.

We made an offer last week to a nanny; she told us she was interviewing with a few families and would get back to us early this week. This spooked us, and over the weekend, we met with another nanny that we like even better. Since I hadn't heard from the first by Tuesday, I made an offer to the second, and she accepted. I now feel super awkward about calling the first, but don't want her to make the wrong decision thinking we are still interested. Is it totally wrong to text? (We have communicated by text before).
