Big difference between snow in Chicago and snow in Atlanta.
Time to take off your bitch panties.

Yeah. You're right, we get 4 times as much.

You're still here?

^^ Here's the website where I found info regarding Atlanta's government offices being open/closed

I was in Atlanta a few years ago when you guys got about 2 inches of snow - I remember it shut down EVERYTHING including the airport (I got to spend an extra day because of that).

Given that the southeast doesn't get snow and has NO prep for it I would just politely inform your employers that if the government is shut down for non-essential employees (which it looks like Atlanta is prepping to do based on their website) then you will be unable to make it into work. If the government is still open then use your best judgement and perhaps use a vacation day if they're really being that uptight about it.

I agree with having them come to pick you up and drop you off at home. Tell them you don't feel comfortable driving in the snow/ice.

If they want you to work, they can drive and come get you. And bring you home.

If you don't look after yourself, no one else will.

Something all nannies need to learn. Say no. It's clear from the disasters last time that your area is incapable of dealing with this weather since it is unusual for you.

Even if you have to take the day unpaid you're better off doing so then buying a new car, paying dr bills, or being laid up for weeks/months because of a fall on ice or car crash.

We are getting bad weather where I live, and I will be staying overnight at my NF's house tomorrow because MB needs me Thursday, and I'd rather not travel.

If it's really unsafe, I won't go. Staying over isn't an option for me. My husband is out of town for work and we have 2 dogs.

OP I would just obsessively check the weather and road condition reports and let them know you'll only be in IF all the news stations are reporting the roads are clear. I'm in Portland OR and we just got slammed with a snow and ice storm on Thur so I know where you're coming from. Either your region is prepared for it or it's not. Mine's not and neither is yours. Luckily I already had Fri-Sun off anyway so it wasn't too bad and by yesterday it was starting to thaw and now it's mostly melted (yay Oregon rain!)

No you're not. Unfortunately when it comes to things like this, no one really cares about the nannies, maids, janitors and such. Just look at the telecommuting nonsense we deal with here in DC. All the professional workers are told to stay safe and telecommute. But you must have child care. Wtf?? Its perfectly acceptable to have us on the roads. Sorry, OP.

Post 02/11/2014 22:14     Subject: Bosses want me to drive through ice and snow to work

I have worked for a wonderful family for about 6 months.
I am very happy in my job. My little charge is wonderful and I get along well with MB/DB.
I work full-time, 4 days per week and I have guaranteed hours. I've never missed a day of work and only used 3 of my 10 available vacation days during Christmas. I come in early and stay late when needed.
I live in Atlanta. A few weeks ago, we had a pretty major snow storm (for us) that shut down the entire city for days.
We are expecting another beginning tonight through Thursday.
The roads are supposed to ice over along with some snow accumulation tonight.
The weather report is saying that driving will be "nearly impossible."
Today, They told me to take tomorrow off, as they would both be home. Later this evening, I got a text from them saying that they decided they need me to come in after all. I'm irritated that they expect me to take chances driving to work in this weather. We have no salt trucks and I drive a small car that doesn't handle well in this type of weather.
The thing that is really irritating me though is that they said they want me to come because they are already paying me for the day.
Their offices are closed. Schools are closed. Many stores and restaurants will be closed.
I normally have Wednesdays off anyway but had Monday off instead because the baby had to go to the doctor.
I willingly rescheduled an appointment of my own in order to accommodate them.
Am I being unreasonable to not want to drive to work?
