I place a very high value on my nanny consciously working to develop my kids' emotional intelligence and social skills. It's far more important in the pre-school years than learning ABCs and counting skills. Valentine's Day is a perfect excuse to start teaching young kids about love, what it feels like to give and receive it, how to show care for others, etc.

Are you serious? Did you go to public elementary school in the US? (if you didn't, that's fine...just wondering)

It's very normal for children in the US to celebrate valentine's day. Crafts and baking projects are very common. Young children often bring cards/treats to school to pass out to peers. Most kids I know make cards for everyone; friends, family members, parents. Not as big of a deal as Christmas but anyone that is around on that day would probably get a card.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that if your nanny does have your kids make you something, it's not "really weird" for many people. I would hope that you'd at least be gracious.

We've been talking about love, hearts, family and pink for the past month.
Today I hid paper hearts around the play area and they had a hunt. It was cute.

Last week we mixed red and white paints to make pink and of course the tissue paper hearts. Plus other stuff like reading books with love in it, family based books, looking at family pictures, etc.

As we don't do sugar or any processed foods the treats and all around any holiday is a no go. Maybe when they are older. They are 20 month old triplets, by the way.

+1. It makes me wonder what percentage of nannies on here regularly take the time to plan quality learning activities for their charges. I guess that time is being spent complaining about employers not giving them all the bonuses, PTO, and other perks to which they feel entitled.

I'll browse pinterest, but my charge is too little for a craft. I might try and get a handprint or footprint for a craft, but it'll depend on if I can find the time.

It's really disheartening that threads like this are ignored, yet everyone will jump on a thread to bitch and moan and argue...

we are going out for heart shaped pizza on Friday. we have been doing lots of crafts and will make some marshmallow cookies at some point

I'll help the older toddler cut out hearts and color on them for her parents.

I have plans to do a baking activity with my charges (chocolate strawberry muffins!), and I'm thinking of an art activity that we could do, and I'm wondering what fun activities you all are planning, or have done in the past? Thanks for sharing!
