I was just in a similar position as you. The mom texted that they really were interested in me and just needed to speak to my references. She said I'd hear from her by Tuesday, 3 days after interview. By Friday I still hadn't heard so I sent a quick text stating I really enjoyed meeting them and would love to work for them and wanted to know if they went with someone else so I knew if I should keep looking. She responded and apologized that she only called one reference and was going to call the others Friday and Saturday. She was a new mom with 4 week old baby so I understood. On Saturday she called and offered me the job

OP, don't overthink it too much. I'm an MB and I would never offer a job without carefully checking references, and that can take a little while to do. It sounds like they gave you a strong indication of interest but now you just have to wait (as you know). But try not to make yourself crazy about it in the meantim.

Agree with PP. Keep on interviewing. You never know when there's an even better job offer coming your way. It's good to be selective. GL.

OP here. Of course I will, but I have not had many interview opportunities lately. It is hard to find a family with hours that fit my schedule (and enough of them) and willing to pay on the books, let me drive my own car, etc.

Ugh just a small vent here. Had an awesome (well so I think) interview with a super great family last night. They seemed very interested in me, and even told me the rate they would be able to offer me (I gave them my range and they came up to that even though they had been paying less in the past). They just wanted to talk to my references before making any decisions of course. The mom mentioned something about wanted to snap me up before someone else did. So I sent my usual thank you email last night and was sort of expecting a reply, even as much as something like "we enjoyed meeting you too and will get back to you after we get in touch with your references". So I just hate the waiting game you know. They said they are expecting to make a decision this week, so I hope to hear something by Friday. I was feeling really good about it yesterday but now I'm second guessing my chances. In my experience, if a family is super into you, they let you know right away. Well thanks for letting me rant and rave.
