Worker's comp is commercial insurance. Homeowners and renters insurance is personal insurance. In MD it is not part of your homeowners or renters as a rider, it is a separate policy. Most agents however will only issue it if they have your other book of business because their commission is tiny and the paperwork a PITA! State Farm, Erie, Allstate, etc. are all options, any company that offers commercial insurance.

OP here, thanks for your reply. I did some more research just in case anyone else is interested in this topic I'm posting what I found out. We rent our home so we were unable to add it on to our renter's insurance, apparently they only do it for homeowners. The state insurance fund (chesapeake) quoted us $1150/year for an estimated yearly salary of 42,000 (825/week). GTM also offers it for $507/year + a $125/year admin cost, but you have to use their payroll service as well.

You can get workers' comp from a commercial insurance company or through the state's injured workers fund. Commercial insurance is the cheaper route. When I lived in MoCo I purchased from Allstate, there are many other options out there. GEICO and USAA do not offer commercial insurance, you are wasting your time there.

FTM in the process of hiring a nanny. From what I understand workman's comp insurance is mandatory in MD for household employees. Anyone have experience with this? What agency did you go through? How much did it cost you? Thanks in advance!
