The main teacher can translate, but I'd rather communicate with her myself. I know I can bang random words into Google Translate, but that won't give me a quick-and-dirty guide to the Spanish I need. I only need "yes" or "no" or numbers answers Ex, how many bottles did she have today?, did she nap on her regular schedule?, have a good weekend, etc.

I'd suggest Google Translate. It's not perfect, but she should be able to understand what you are trying to say. However, you also have to consider how she is going to answer you. Perhaps you can have a translation app open on your phone for her to use to reply if she is able to read/write? Or can the main daycare teacher help to translate?

Your best bet is to just figure out a list of words you need to say and grab a Spanish dictionary.

She should really know a few words in English.

Hi,

Does anyone have recommendations for a book on Spanish related to babies? My daughter just started at a wonderful in-home daycare and the assistant only speaks Spanish. It's frustrating to have to speak to her through one of the other assistants. I looked on Amazon and but didn't have much luck ("The Nanny Translator" is out-of-print).

I hope I'm not offending anyone by asking this -- I just want to communicate with her. I'm already learning another language in order to be able to communicate with my husband's relatives, so I don't have time right now to jump in and learn the entire language. I know that half the population is Hispanic and I'll need to know Spanish eventually in order to communicate with neighbors, coworkers, etc etc, but right now I just need the Cliff's Notes as it relates to daycare/nannies.

Thanks!
