The parents responsibility is being able to afford child care. Get rid of cable, stop buying kids a ton of toys they don't need, by cheap used clothes vs name brand and full price.

Child care workers aren't doing this for fun they also need to make a living.

I've helped people in dire need but when they wouldn't cancel their cable service had two iPads iPods and got the newest iPhone the day it came out I informed them that I could no longer help them. They said cable was a nessesity and they only wanted the best cell phones. I told them their priorities are in the wrong place that they don't NEED those items they NEED child care and they could find a decent nanny or a great day care by getting rid of those other items. They disagreed because watching their baby is easy work.

You have no idea what this person's financial situation is so I think piling judgment and ridicule on them is very unkind. That may be the absolute best they can do and they may be desperate.

The thing is, "affordable" childcare is not a right. The expense of childcare is a reality that *should* be considered before having kids. Making a decent wage for honest work is a right that we used to value in this country. The real issue is how do we make childcare affordable, while also attracting and retaining quality caregivers, and paying them enough to maintain a certain quality of life. No one cares about the cost of childcare until they have to pay it, and no one cares about childcare workers in general.

These stories are just scary! And these same parents will wonder why they can't get reliable childcare or why their nannys keep leaving them.
They wouldn't work for that little money so why should a nanny?

The entitlement to good "affordable" childcare is outrageous, all because the parents want to maintain their "real" jobs.
Funny.

I just saw an ad for 50 hours with a 2.5 y/o and the mother wants to pay "no more than $100/week." This isn't live-in. This woman wants to pay someone $2/hour to drive to her home to care for her child. The most insulting part is that she wants the nanny to be available for date nights.
If you can't afford more than $2/hour, you can't afford date night.

Commenting on the ad is not stewing. And the comment is due to the fact that the offer is unbelievable.
I'm really wondering how many parents think that that offer is a decent amount of money.
From what the nanny above says way more than we would think.

Coming from one website to another just to post about a low wage is stewing. I come across DOZENS of families online and in RL who try to get cheap childcare and that's on the family. We all know they aren't getting a professional with that wage so they will have to live and learn and most likely will opt for daycare once they realize it.

Clearly not, if care.com allows families to leave bad reviews because of it.

Let's not get started on care.com.
It's an international scam.

I got a negative review on care.com from a family I interviewed with because I declined their job offer and kindly told them $265 for 40 hours wasn't even minimum wage and I couldn't work for that little. They wrote I was greedy and immature due to requiring too much to play with their baby all day. I contacted care and they said parents can write reviews and they don't remove them unless the family asks. I asked them how they can support a family that wants to pay an illegal wage and under the table. I got some generic written response saying it's on each party to make the right decision.

$275 a week??!! Okay, this is maybe a mini rant or just plain disbelief.

I just saw an ad on craigslist for a full time live out nanny working 45 hours a week. The parents are sooo kindly offering the princely sum of $275 per week! I was so shocked I read it 4 or 5 times to make sure I understood.

I don't really have more to say except I wonder how many people think this is an acceptable rate. It end up being something like $6.11 per hour. Macdonald's pays better.
