OP no one can answer if you need to work since we don't know what your contract says. If it says "holidays" off I think there is a good bet they meant real ones where people celebrate like July 4 or something. If it says fed holidays them you have the day off or you should insist on holiday pay at an OT or double time rate. If you have no contract this is the perfect time to point out to your MB that you need one I. Order to avoid confusion.

My nanny will be working on Monday even though DH has the day off. She swapped MLK day for another day off during the holidays. It's also nice to have a day off that can be used to get things done around the house that can't be done without childcare.

What is wrong with you people? My MB has the day off, but we are switching that holiday for another day I'm taking off so that she can run some errands and have a little her time. What is wrong with that? EVERYONE needs a little time to themselves, especially parents! Also, if you think that your rude remarks are going to make anyone feel like a shitty parent, you are so wrong!

The PP you quoted isn't OP. And I think you misread what I wrote.
I posted the link to show that yes, it is a federal holiday. But unless her work agreement says she has the day off....

If that's your agreement with your nanny, by all means, but I think its pretty shitty to use your day off "doing things around the house" instead of being with your kids. There are tons of people without nannies, and they seem to get by just fine without needing someone to occupy their children to function.

Mom is a doctor, maybe she will. But dad is a federal employee, so I'm sure he's off.
