In general they keep it cooler than most homes because they don't like the added expense. I'm bringing my kid friendly space heater whether they like it or not.

LOL that makes no sense at all!

Tell them, that you aren't comfortable working in such a cold home. I don't know why parents do this nonsense. When I was a new nanny, I once took care of 2 toddlers in Bethesda. I didn't know any better, and was taken advantage of, on so many levels (never again). One thing I remember, is how cold I was at work. One of the children, asked why I was wearing a winter jacket indoors, saying "papa, says no coats inside"... I told him that inside was no different from the outside, hence the jacket. It's been so long, that I can't remember what happened next, but I do remember being glad to leave, and 4 months later, the father calling me, and trying to rehire me, after their new nanny didn't quite work out. Needless to say, I told him I was unavailable, every day on the week.

This is insane. My bosses have made it known from day 1 that I am welcome to set the thermostat to whatever I need it to be at to be comfortable. I would quit, OP.

Not safe to have a space heater around young kids. As them to get it serviced.

I don't think space heaters are a money drain. I have one I run off and on all night and it doesn't change my utility bill much at all. Maybe I have a very efficient model.

Just keep in mind that in most workplaces, this would border on being against the law. Space Heaters are a money drain, so you may want to consider looking for a new family.

I can see not heating the whole home, but there should be an area where you can be comfortable with the children.

Good luck!

The last family I worked for had a separate floor heating unit or w/e for every room. The WAHM had her room / office and the kids rooms nice and cozy but the main living area where I spent most of my day was always set in the low 60's. I was so sick of being cold all day I finally just started turning it up myself. I know that it's their house and their heating bill, but it was just so rude I didn't care after awhile. If they are nice and understanding people, maybe you can approach them with the idea of a space heater? Otherwise good luck, I hate being cold too!

Unacceptable. I'll bet they crank the heat up once they get home! Don't show them the space heater, they'll be mad at the extra electricity you're using.

Sounds just like my NF's home.
