Oh wait. I get it. Your last question begs some trash talking about parents.

So this is another trouble making troll thread. Maybe you should just label as such in your thread title, instead of pretending you are curious about 24 hr nannies.

Why are you so defensive? Someone unaquainted with the idea of 24-hour nannies probably does find the concept baffling.

I'm a nanny to twin 1 year olds. I work 10 hour days. The parents are with their kids for maybe an hour in the morning, and they get home at or right after bedtime. Its really not *that* different. My employer's simply assume responsibility at night (they sleep through the night, 11 hours, unless sick), where a 24-hour nanny would still be on duty and getting paid. I think you can still be good parents, but have the need for 24-hour care.

I've been a 24 hour nanny. It's exactly what it sounds like. The nanny or nannies are in charge of the children 24 hours a day.

Yes, it is exhausting and you give up your life on the days you are on duty. I was getting paid at least $450/day in both of my jobs and got raises and bonuses on top of that. It's definitely not for everyone. I did it for 3 1/2 years in two different jobs. During that time paid off all of my graduate school loans and saved a lot of money that has now helped me buy a house.

I'll just point out that my board meetings are a requirement of staying on the boards I'm on.

On another thread "Bonus Poll Time" - one poster said she earned $12 an hr as a 24 Hour nanny in NY.

Another poster asked,
"MB here. I'm curious--for the '24 hour' nanny--really, do the parent(s) not spend any time with the kids? Are you there all night? is this fora special needs child who needs full time attention all the time? is this for single (wealthy) parents who work all the time I don't understand. I'm not trying to be snarky, just trying to understand who hires a 24 hour nanny...and wonder what the kid's relationship with parent(s) is like"

That's my question too. Are there many 24 hour nannies out there? Other posters said as 24hr nannies, that they made around the $12 an hour. But they ALL said they worked for wealthy, billionaires, or high profile people in NY or LA. What do they get for giving up their lives, when compensation is so low? Do these wealthy people hire inexperienced, uneducated nannies? I would think these people would pay top $$$ for someone great to raise their kids for them?

Another poster said,
"I'm a 24hr nanny for NY billionaires. I'm on duty 24/6. I'm with children the while time, basically a proxy parent responsible for everything related to the child. Huge responsibility. Parents don't have "real" jobs- just go to business "meetings" sometimes at family's office. They see their kids on average 15 minutes a day. They go out to socialize almost every night. They never tell me when, where, and when they will be back. Of course they have a Sunday nanny. But I have to say, they are great employers and great parents- they love their children, and pay someone excellent to look after their children. Because this is an anonymous site. I earn $625 a day and think I should get more, but happy all the same.

How can they be good parents when they only see their kids 15 mins a day?
