A lot of people are looking for afternoon/evening care, and it can be hard to find b/c nannies want to get home to their families, too. If you can market yourself to this group, you'll probably do well!

I hope you can find a good solution to your problem.Do you drink diet sodas? Ithink that can aggravate bowel problems. I agree with the others that just saying you're unavailable in the morning is the way to go. maybe you can market yourself to people who work swing shift or nights?

MB here and I agree with the others - don't tell. If a potential employer really presses you can just say your reasons are personal, that the job that is the right fit for you will be one without early morning hours.

If they push beyond that they're not the right employer for you anyway.

Is there a medication you can take? Have you seen a good gastroenterologist?

You may want to post in the health forum on the main board and ask what has helped others with IBS.

OP here. Thank you both for your kind replies. I will keep it to myself as I agree that is best. I tried going gluten free but it didn't change anything. Right now I am mostly dairy free (use a few lactose free items with no issues) and that has seemed to help. But some weeks (like now) I just keep getting sick for no reason, it is so frustrating!

Been there. So sorry you're suffering! I would simply tell them I'm unavailable in the mornings and leave it there. As a side note, when I first started nannying I was missing a ton of work due to stomach issues. Cutting out grains, and other products containing gluten, has basically eliminated my symptoms.

Hi, I have a question that might be kind of odd but this is anonymous so here goes. I am searching for a new nanny position at the moment either part time or full time. I am flexible with the amount of hours. What I am not flexible with is mornings. Besides not being an early morning person, I have IBS and tend to get my symptoms in the morning and need some time to get things going. Sometimes families contact me who are flexible with hours but would like someone to help out in the mornings. I tell them I am not available for early mornings and usually leave it at that, but I am wondering if I should elaborate. I don't want them to think I am not a flexible person, but think telling them about my IBS is a little too much information and then they might also think of not hiring me because I might be sick and in and out of the bathroom all day (which is sometimes the case). I don't have my own children so can't use that as an excuse as to why I'm not available (such as I have to bring them to school in the morning). I could say I have another position in the morning hours, but then they might wonder where that reference is. Ugh am I just over-thinking this?
