and I made it to work. It's cold but the

You have already decided not to go so why continue probing for someone to agree with you when everyone agrees it's not a good reason to stay home. There are plenty of people who go to work in snow storms and spent hours digging out their cars just to get to work. It's cold, I get it but you are hoping in a warm car to head to a warm house. This isn't a life or death situation, you aren't driving in a snow storm or through dangerous wooded back roads that won't be plowed and sanded. I'm pretty sure most suburbs have plows putting down sand/salt on all main roads if there is an icy advisory.

If you don't feel safe than call in but don't expect your employers or anyone else to feel the same.

I'm in the far west suburbs of Chicago and the air temp is currently -15. I tried going in but the roads are a sheet of ice. Fortunately I have understanding employers and they understood and wanted me to be safe. They both have the ability to work from home so they'll muddle through without me today.

Oh no not -10 it's -30 -50 here with the windchill I still have to go to work. Put on your big girl pants and go to work

This is why I would never live in Chicago. Well...the cold + the crime.

I don't understand what the cold had to do with driving conditions? You should have stated that! First off, what did you do last week? Besides the cold and traffic , there will be no storm. There was a big storm last week so what did you do then?

No offense but how can you live in Chicago and not know how to drive in the winter? It's kind of a necessity and I am always baffled by people who say that. It's just snow...nothing all that serious. I've been driving for 7 years and never saw a point to not come in except 2011 blizzard.

I would let th know now so they have enough time to make an alternative plan. They'll probably have to take off work themselves. If it's just that it's very cold, that's no excuse.

I am a nanny in Chicago. I will be going to work. I don't feel the cold should be any excuse. I will just be dressing warmer. I don't feel I need a day off or special situations because of a weather change. Then again, I just started and have a way better work ethic than most people.

I am a full time nanny in Chicago and anyone watching the news can see that we are experiencing extreme weather conditions, including snow and expecting -10 degree weather tomorrow morning. My employers are expecting me to come to work in this weather and I don't feel safe. I would like to call out tomorrow but would like to know other opinions as I want to be professional.
