I asked my family if I could take a day off New Years Day and they said no. MB lectured me on how they need reliability and they would replace me if I decided to take off.
Let me make this clear, I've never missed a day of work or even been late. My days are normally standard but I come in sometimes at 5:30am and stay until 6pm. I stay late, show up early, completely run the household( ligh housekeeping, dinner( for charges and parents),
pickups, dropoffs, shopping, doctor appointments, classes, play dates, etc). I organize and execute everything.
I'm not too exoerienced( only 2.5 years as nanny) so I was stupid for taking a position that doesn't offer sick days or vacation time. The only day I get off is Xmas eve, Xmas and New Years Eve this winter. I asked off for New Years( they want me from 6am-7pm so they can have alone time). I asked if I could have that day off as I'd like to celebrate New Years Eve and a flat out no. They won't even be working.
I can't believe they would even fire me over this. I am seriously considering finding a new job ASAP. Am I out of line and they are right? I will work New Years because I don't want MB to be mad at me but I can't do anything the night before now.
Is this even a firing offense? I mean one day?
working 12.5 hours a day, no vacation, no sick time, three days off a year. now tell me that you work in NY, are paid $3 an hour and that your employer is an Indian diplomat and have goods news for you (one being you are not going to be her slave anymore).
I am jocking my I am seriously curious to know how much you make for that kind of work. and yes, I would quit too (and I am not a nanny)
