This.
If there is a load of adult laundry in the washer or dryer when I am doing kids' laundry I will either switch it from machine to machine or fold it. I pull the underwear out and leave it unfolded. It's pretty simple stuff. Either grow up and deal with it or let the parents know you are unable to.

I take offense to that. I do not think I am above anyone. Get the hell off your high horse. Nothing but rude instigating morons on this site. Pathetic excuse. Don't respond if you don't have anything nice to say. I did not say I was above anyone.

Well you're being really dumb. "I agreed to do my employer's laundry and now I'm upset that I'm finding normal bodily fluids on it." I'd be grossed out too, which is why I don't do adult laundry. What do you want your employers to do - separate out all their "gross" dirty clothes and only have you wash the "nice" dirty clothes? Like I said, you signed up for it so if you're unhappy, fix it or suck it up. Don't come on here and complain about something totally normal. I assume that when you agreed to do their laundry, your bosses took this to mean you were okay with dealing with the grossness that comes with it. They'd probably be mortified and upset if they found out you were on here airing their dirty laundry, so to speak.

we work FT and do not have any help at home, so we do wash all our stuff ourselves. I found your comments offensive and unfair. these people hired a nanny and put in the job description laundry once a week. why should they be considered spoiled lazy brats? they paid for a service, and how they choose to spend their money is their business. maybe they work 15hr a day including week ends, maybe they take care of the yard and themselves and never eat out. if you buy a sandwich for lunch at work instead of bringing your lunch are you a lazy spoiled brat? I also find kind of funny how the nanny knows about the stains in the underwear, mine goes from the hamper to the washer, and for sure I have not time to look at every single garment when I do the laundry.

but the real issue here is that the nanny does not want to wash the laundry, which is also perfectly OK. so why the heck did she accept to do it? she could have said no, and look for a job where she was not asked to do laundry. her employers would have found somebody else who did not mind doing the laundry, win win. accepting the job, and then complaining about doing the laundry seem very childish to me. If, after accepting the job and agreeing to do the laundry, the nanny came to me and told me that she does not want to wash underwear, I would find her very strange ; laundry is all kind of clothing items, even underwear, and yes they are dirty, otherwise they would not need to be washed (I could understand if she had to wash it by hand, but I assume that the laundry is done by simply dropping a bunch of laundry in the washer). of the nanny had a problem with it, why she did not say it upfront.

You read too much into my post. I wasn't saying that her bosses don't have a right to spend their money how they choose, simply that I couldn't respect someone like that. I couldn't have a professional relationship with someone who has asked me to wash their underwear, as I would have a hard time not seeing them as lazy. If you make it clear in your ad that laundry is expected, more power to you. I would never take a job like that because I don't want to work for people who can't/won't do their own laundry, just as I don't work for people who spank, rely heavily on TV, or eat a lot of fast food.

^not required to do adult laundry that is. i'd be fine if she left the underwear for us to deal with - but I did not hire someone specifically to do laundry. your MB may not want to be bothered with it.

pp here - FWIW< no I am not weirded out by nanny doing underwear. She is not required to do ours but the fact that she does is a huge huge help to us.

You could ask them to sort the laundry ahead of time so you can just grab it and dump it in. I'd raise in a slightly embarrassed manner like you're reluctant to mention it and know it's a bit silly (work w/ me - it's simply aimed at making your MB receive your request best) but you've found that dealing with the underwear has made you uncomfortable. I'd indicate that you recognize that is part of the job but wanted to know if it was possible for them to get a laundry bag sorter so that whites/undies went in one side and all else was in another which would minimize your need to sift through the clothes so carefully.

People need to do their own dirty laundry. I'd be disgusted to.

Op here. I am more than ok with doing laundry. I just find it rather weird that they don't mind me seeing their lingerie, period stains, etc.

I do go through each piece to separate colors.

For the record, I work just 40 a week. They are off in the evenings and weekends.

I think you have two options:
1. be direct and say that laundering their undergarments makes you uncomfortable and you would prefer (insert alternative here...they separate their underwear, you discontinue adult laundry, etc)
2. suck it up, buy a pair of cleaning gloves, and try to avoid touching/looking at their underwear until it comes out of the wash cycle
Good luck!

I've been working with my family for the past 2 months. Everything has been going well expect for one issue. I made a mistake in accepting to do family laundry once a week. My lo is still young, 8.5 months and I do have time. However, today was laundry day and in the clothes were moms lingerie. I understand that is part of laundry but really? I would never let my future nanny see my lingerie. That's just gross.

In the past I've got the dad's boxers that looked like semen stains and the mom's bloody period panties.

Am I out of line for thinking it's disgusting. Parents, would you ever be ok with your nanny seeing such personal clothing items?

Not to mention I am only paid $13.50/hr. I live in Denver, CO.
