Nannying is child care, not child services. CASA is child services.

CASA qualifies as child services IME. Depending on your tenure and cases you might even include highlights (advocated for 4 children from 3 families over the course of X years, advocated for children in and through foster, residential care and home placements, etc...)

Take it with a grain of salt of course, I could be wrong. I'm a nanny working on my BSW

this is correct. Run from social work.

Run from social work? No! Do social work, take good care of yourself while doing it (because god knows nobody else will) and feel good about the fact that you're in the trenches dealing with the fallout of our fucked up world!

You don't actually get to help. You deal with a crazy system with co-workers and administrators who are so burnt out, they treat everyone like dirt, including you. You cannot take care of yourself if you are always denied leave, work crazy hours and pay is just ok.

That's not necessarily totally true. I had a social worker in high school for three years during the lowest point in my life. She was a HUGE help to me. In fact, now in my late 30's, when something huge came up I reached out to this woman who I looked towards like a second mother in the early 90's, and she was once again, there for me. I love her.

Do you have personal experience as a social worker? If so, please feel free to share your story. Either way, since I'm applying to an MSW program I think it's obvious that I've already decided on this. Social work might not be for everyone (e.g. you) but someone must do it. I am willing to do it. goodbye.

Thanks guys! I'm going to include the CASA years but add a note in there about it being CASA and not specifically child services.

Just looking for opinions here. As in, what would you do if you were in this situation. Thanks.

I am applying to go back to school. It's a master's of social work program with an emphasis in child welfare. One of the questions is "do you have experience in child services?" and then "if yes, how many years?"

My question for you guys is, would you consider nannying a "child service"? Since it's an application for a child welfare program I'm thinking nannying wouldn't be a child service because I think they mean services for children who are in foster care...maybe. What do you think?

Another question- I am a volunteer CASA (court appointed special advocate) for children who are in the foster care system. Even though this is a volunteer position, would it qualify as experience in child services?

I will be supplying them with detailed work history and my resume so this question may not be super important but if any of these do qualify as experience in child services I would like to include them. Thanks.
