Hi, I think your family is lucky to have you! I agree with all the other posters, and I would be thrilled. Our pt nanny does this for us on occasion, and even if I have something else planned for dinner that night, it's always nice to have a meal ready when you get home.

If you're worried about how she'll respond, I'd just text her the day or morning you plan to cook.

Have fun!

I think it would be a nice gesture OP!

If she had any qualms about it, then that would be her bad indeed.

That is great and very thoughtful. Hope she enjoys it.

Okay thanks ladies! I made a pasta dish with some chicken breast and veggies, so nothing extravagant and I used things she usually keeps around. Hoping it goes over well!

Thrilled but I am very particular with food. My husband eats anything so just to cook for him and the kids would be great.

My husband is the cook so he's the one who plans out meals and what gets used when. I'm the Type A one of the two of us. So between those two pieces of info, probably not a good idea at our house. But if you got downtime and decided to bake cookies or something that'd be fine.

MB here - my nanny has done this for us a handful of times and it has been so lovely. She's done it when it's my birthday or our anniversary (and if she knows we don't have plans) or occasionally when she's making something for the kids so just makes extra for us.

I will say that typically she has shopped for the food and isn't using stuff I have purchased. If I had bought some special cut of meat, or crab cakes, or something like that and she used it, I might be annoyed. But if she's just pulling out some chicken breasts from the freezer I'm thrilled.

If your MB has a controlling type or personality than she might not like it but for the most part, most MBs would enjoy and appreciate the surprise.

Another MB here and I would also be thrilled. Too many nights I get home and am just too tired to cook after we get the baby to bed for the night.

I'm an MB and I would be thrilled. If you did it all the time, I would probably feel awkward about it, but once a month or so, I would love it. If you're worried, maybe text her and say "hey - baby is having a long nap today and I thought I'd make dinner tonight. That ok?"

If you walked in one evening and your nanny had made you dinner? I love to cook, I have the time (young infants who sleep for up to 2 hours at a time), and I hear it mentioned often as something MBs appreciate. However, I know how I am about my kitchen, and everything in it has a purpose. If there's something in the fridge, I have plans for it, and would be a little disappointed if someone used it. I'm just worried I'd be overstepping my bounds. What do you all think? Would it be a nice surprise or kind of annoying?

For what its worth, I already cook in her kitchen often, preparing the baby food, but I've never cooked for her. She's a busy single mother and a wonderful boss, who I'd like to do something nice for and help out. Thanks for any replies!
