It's 8.33 an hour if the nanny works the full 30 hours. The add says she could worn fewer. And it's rent/utilities/food included. Why would this not be legal?

She demanding on-call 24 hour availability, but not paying for it. Why should she? She's entitled to what she wants.

It actually sounds kind of crummy. Low pay, shifting hours and having to live in your home with a bathroom on a separate floor. In less you are using military activities, reduce some of them and pay the nanny more given it would be hard to work a second job as you are basically doing hours week to week.

Also, the contract can specify a hourly rate and a deduction for rent. Some people even do a rent exchange where they work a specific number of hours in exchange for accommodations.

It's perfectly legal, do the math.

Our family is looking for a live-in nanny from January until June (we can extend if both parties are happy, it's negotiable). The rate is $250 a week (not including taxes and social security). We use a service where you need to register to be paid automatically or direct deposit.

-Nanny does not need to pay rent/utilities/food (unless you have special food you want to buy separate from what we have).
-You have your own room. You will share a bathroom on the top floor level.
-Work will be a maximum of 30 hours a week, but it won't be that much always. Shift will depend on the week and my schedule, but I will go over it with you the week before (there may also be some last minute changes). Assuming that you will be able to meet the bus daily at 3:00 p.m. You need to help with the boys with their homework each day. I don't need help in the mornings unless I have a meeting I have to go to. In those case, you have to get the boys dressed and make lunch for them.
-Light cleaning, laundry, keeping their rooms tidy, cleaning the bathroom and play area, and other housework associated with the kids are also needed to be done.
-You should also prepare meals when I'm not home. The boys should help you in cleaning up.
-You should also take the boys to assorted appointments like karate or camp during the summer. They have karate on Mondays and Fridays. On Saturdays, I will take them to the karate class unless we prearranged for you to do it instead (because I'm traveling).
----my husband is currently deployed but will be coming home in the middle of this time, so the times you are needed will shift as we find out his schedule.
--This would be a great position for someone looking to move to the area but who doesn't have a job yet or a student or recently graduated student.
